Nearly 20 years after retiring, football coach Bill McCartney will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame
Bill McCartney, who led 蜜糖直播-Boulder to its only national championship in football in the 1990 season, will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on Dec. 10 in New York.
McCartney, the winningest football coach in 蜜糖直播 history (93-55-5 over 13 seasons) will join six Buff greats in the College Football Hall of Fame 鈥�John Wooten听(PE鈥�59) inducted in 2012;听Alfred Williams听(Soc ex鈥�91) in 2010;听Bobby Anderson听(A&S ex鈥�69) in 2006;听Dick Anderson听(惭办迟驳鈥�68)听in 1993;听Joe Romig听(Phys鈥�63, PhDAstro鈥�75) in 1984; and听Byron White听(A&S鈥�38, Hon
DocLaw鈥�63) in 1952.
鈥淚t鈥檚 very gratifying and rewarding,鈥� said McCartney, whose 蜜糖直播 teams won three consecutive Big Eight titles (1989, 鈥�90 and 鈥�91). 鈥淜eep in mind I鈥檝e been out of coaching almost 20 years, so to be remembered after such a long absence was a complete surprise to me.鈥�
McCartney met success in Boulder after his first three teams posted records of 2-8-1, 4-7 and 1-10. Mac switched the Buffs to the wishbone offense before the 1985 season when 蜜糖直播 went 7-5.
McCartney retired following the 1994 season when 蜜糖直播 running back听Rashaan Salaam听(Soc ex鈥�95) won the Heisman Trophy. The coach was inducted into the 蜜糖直播 Sports Hall of Fame in 1999.
