Three Secret Sins of Boulderites
Boulder residents have a reputation for being über health conscious, exercise-crazed and ultra-green. However, who wants to be perfect all the time? Here are three places where Boulderites can be downright sinful.
- The Dark Horse Bar and Grill: Since 1977 vegans who get annual burger cravings have hit this Boulder landmark, which USA Today named as one of the “places to eat a burger worthy of paradise.” Its low lighting provides a perfect environment to hide while you turn into a carnivore for the evening.
- Dizzy’s Donuts: While doughnut shops were all but run out of town five years ago, Dizzy’s Donuts opened this year to satisfy Boulderites’ unspoken desires for deep-fried treats. “So how about a doughnut made with crème brûlée or key lime, complete with graham cracker crust and both made from the real thing?” asks owner Eric Guthrie, whose tactic is to offer exotic doughnuts with fresh ingredients.
- Mustard’s Last Stand: Supplying an endless parade of ֱ students and alumni with hot dogs, hamburgers, Polish sausage, chili cheese dogs and beyond, this legendary establishment has been around since the 1970s and has operated continuously since 1978.
“You should be thankful that this establishment has been able to survive the onslaught of truffle oil and rosemary sea salt,” writes one Yelp reviewer, Caitlin M.
