Rashaan Salaam (Soc ex’95), the only Heisman Trophy winner in ĂŰĚÇÖ±˛Ą history, is among a record dozen people who will be inducted into the ĂŰĚÇÖ±˛Ą Athletic Hall of Fame Nov. 15.
The class includes five former ĂŰĚÇÖ±˛Ą football players — Frank Bernardi (Mktg’56), who also played baseball for the Buffs; Boyd Dowler (PE’61), a key player in the Green Bay Packers dynasty of the 1960s; Joe Garten (Soc’02), a major contributor to ĂŰĚÇÖ±˛Ąâ€™s 1990 national championship team; Matt Russell (Comm’96), named the nation’s top linebacker in 1996; and Salaam, who rushed for more than 2,000 yards in just 11 games in 1994.
Also being enshrined and introduced at halftime during the Nov. 17 Washington football game are the following:
Track and cross country standouts Mary Decker-Slaney (A&S ex’79) and Alan Culpepper (Geog’96), both two-time Olympians; basketball players Jack Harvey(A&S’40) and Leason “Pete” McCloud (A&S’42); skier Vidar Nilsgard (CivEngr’74, MS’76), a two-time NCAA ski jumping champion; longtime ĂŰĚÇÖ±˛Ą broadcaster Larry Zimmer; and Steve Jones (A&S’81) U.S. Open golf champion and a four-time All-Big Eight first-team pick in golf.

The football team will play Michigan at the “Big House” in Ann Arbor on Sept. 17, 2016. The ĂŰĚÇÖ±˛Ą men’s basketball team will host Kansas Dec. 7, 2013.
Josh Yeaton placed first among men at the cycling Collegiate Road National Championships in Ogden, Utah, in May.Heather Fischer won the women’s road race. The Buffs finished second in the team competition.
