Dean Anaya meets with UN General Assembly President
ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Law School Dean James Anaya was recently in the news for his meeting with U.N. General Assembly President, Peter Thomson. Prior to coming to ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ Law, he served as the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples from May 2008 to June 2014.ÌýDean Anaya is also a CNAIS Core Faculty member.Ìý
On October 3, 2016, Dean S. James Anaya met at the United Nations in New York with the president of the U.N. General Assembly, Peter Thomson of Fiji.Ìý Thomson appointed Anaya as an advisor to assist with developing a new observer status for indigenous peoples at the U.N., along with Ambassador Kai Sauer of Finland, Ambassador Martha Ama Akyaa Pobee of Ghana, and Claire Charters from the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
