Stacey Skaalure Named as Whitaker Scholar

Stacey Skaalure

Stacey Skaalure, who recently received her Ph.D. under the advisement of Associate Professor Stephanie Bryant, has been named aÌý.Ìý

The Whitaker International Program provides funding to emerging leaders in biomedical engineering/bioengineering to conduct research abroad. Each year, up to 50 grants are awarded nationwide to graduate students and post-doctoral applicants. Post-doctoral awardees can receive as much as two years of funding.

Starting in the fall of 2014, Skaalure will begin a two-year post-doctoral position working in the lab of Professor Molly Stevens at Imperial College in London.

Skaalure’s research involves integrating biology, tissue engineering, polymer chemistry, and computation with a goal of developing clinically translatable regenerative medicine and tissue engineering strategies.

Her innovative research, impressive teaching, and commitment to outreach resulted in Skaalure receiving the department’sÌýAmerican Institute of Chemists Graduate Student AwardÌýthis spring.
