PhD, Biochemistry, University of Health Science Center at San Antonio
Dr. Louie earned her Ph.D. in 1993 from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, Department of Biochemistry. She studied the ligation and packaging of viral DNA in the presence of high-molecular-weight polymers (mimicking the excluded-volume conditions inside cells), resulting in four publications and one patent. She then worked with Professor Natalie Ahn as a Howard Hughes Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of ÃÛÌÇÖ±²¥ at Boulder where she learned mass spectrometry and studied ribosomal protein modifications in carcinogen-treated cells, leading to several additional publications. Following her fellowship, she stayed home for five years to raise her children. In 2004, she went back to work as a lecturer in the Baker Residential Academic Program, teaching biology. In 2010, she became an instructor in the Libby Residential Academic Program. She currently teaches Nutrition for Health and Performance. As a teacher, her goal is to nurture students’ interest and enthusiasm for science. She lives in Boulder with her wonderful husband, two loving children, and adorable cat. When not teaching or taking care of the family, she can be found playing tennis, hiking, baking, or gardening.
