A plasma is a low-density collection of dissociated ions and electrons which exhibits collective behavior through long range electromagnetic forces. In this talk I will briefly introduce two particle based methods for simulating plasma systems - the conventional (or "full-f") particle in cell (PIC) method and the delta-f PIC method. I will then discuss how both PIC methods can be interpreted as Monte Carlo integration methods for obtaining source quantities, such as particle or current densities, to be used in Maxwell's equations. Time permitting, a novel Von-Neumann-like stability analysis will be presented for a delta-f PIC model.
